Gulf LBC has more National Champions!
Congratulations to DeVonte Williams for his victory at the 2013 National Police Athletic League Boxing Championships in the 152 lbs male senior open division. DeVonte, trained by his father Hylon Williams, Sr., formerly from Savannah’s is now boxing out of G&M Boxing Club in Houston, TX. Photo attached.
2012 Olympic bronze medalist Marlen Esparza also claimed a title at the event winning the 112 lbs women’s elite division. Marlen recently enlisted in the USA boxing residency program at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and is also coached by Rudy Silva at Elite Boxing Club in Houston, TX.
Many Gulf athletes and coaches made the trip out to Oxnard, California for the tournament and congratulations goes out to each of them.
Marshall Sanchez, coached by Juan Lopez, from Lopez Boxing Club in Baytown, TX, competed to runner-up in the 114 lbs male senior open division.
Melissa Parker, coached by Ramon Sosa at The Woodlands Boxing Club in The Woodlands, TX, also claimed a runner-up finish in the 132 lbs women’s elite division.
Ginny Fuchs, coached by Roy Alvarado out of the Elite Boxing Club, had a hard fought semi-final finish in the 112 lbs women’s elite division.
