On behalf of the Gulf Amateur Boxing Association, we regret to inform you that we have lost one of our members today. On Monday evening, Damazo Tello was involved in an accident on Gulf Freeway and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition. After undergoing tests, doctors determined that his brain function had ceased; Damazo has passed away this afternoon.
Damazo was an excellent boxer who represented the Gulf LBC in many events in Texas and across the country. He represented Ray’s boxing club under Ray Ontiveros and later Savannah’s boxing club under Clara Savannah.
He is survived by his cousin Omar Tello, also a standout Gulf boxer, and a two month old son, Ezekiel.
Damazo touched the lives of many within the Gulf and as we remember him and grieve, our thoughts and prayers are with the Tello family as they cope with this terrible loss.
